Of course, no sensible person would drink pesticide–it’s toxic. But gardeners
who use pesticides or over-fertilize are contaminating local ground water. In
fact, pesticides designed to kill insects, weeds and disease can cause harm to
the environment, your family, pets and wildlife. In many cases, there are
alternatives that are more effective in the long run, less harmful to the
environment and your family and are less expensive.
Now Yamhill County Solid Waste is offering a free guide. Titled Natural
Gardening, this 63-page guide gives tips on reducing pest occurrence, creating
healthy soil, identifying problems, identifying helpful insects as well as
pests, and solutions to weeds and diseases. The guide is published by the State
of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Metro and also contains a
helpful resource section for additional information.
