You don’t need to use pesticides to create a beautiful backyard or a lush garden. In fact pesticides –which are designed to kill insects, weeds and diseases–can cause harm to the environment, your family, pets and wildlife. In many cases, there are alternatives that are more effective in the long run, less harmful to the environment and your family and are less expensive.
Now Yamhill County Solid Waste is offering a free guide. Titled Natural Gardening, this 63-page guide gives tips on reducing pest occurrence, creating healthy soil, identifying problems, identifying helpful insects as well as pests, and solutions to weeds and diseases. Published by the State of Oregon Department of Environment Quality and Metro, it also contains a helpful resource section for additional information.
Yamhill County residents may pick up booklets at the solid waste management office in the county planning department or request their copy at
info@ycsw.org or by calling 503.434.7445.
