Instructions for Making Reusable Gift-Wrapping Bags:
These gift bags can be made with any kind of fabric to suit your tastes and various occasions. You can even sew a tag on the inside to create a "gift log." With each new gift, givers and receivers can see the fun chain of giving and reuse.
You will need:
- Fabric (size varies depending on bag use–from small jewelry to as large as you need!)
- Sewing machine and thread (can also be sewn by hand)
- Ribbon
Directions:
- Cut the fabric to the size you want it. You are going to make a pillowcase shape, so the fabric should be longer than it is wide (if you need a different shape, feel free to adapt the pattern to suit your needs). It helps to have a gift in mind, but you can also do various sizes just to have on hand.
- Fold the edges of the short ends of the fabric over. You can fold them once, or twice for a cleaner edge. Ironing them before sewing will create a crisp finish. Neatly hem each of the edges.
- Fold the fabric in half with right sides facing each other. Iron for a crisp fold. (The gift bag will look inside-out at this point; you will turn it right-side-out when you are finishing sewing.) Sew up each end of the fabric to create your bag.
- Turn it right-side-out to wrap your gift, adding a ribbon to tie it shut. Beautiful!
