Can you imagine stuffing a whole tree into your mailbox? That's about how much junk mail is generated each year … about 34 pounds for every man, woman and child in the United States.
You can stop the waste (and the time and hassle) by completing three easy steps every six months.
Step #1
(Removes your name from unsolicited mailings.)
Mail two postcards or letters to have your name removed from direct mail solicitation lists. Be sure to request that your name be removed from all unsolicited mailing lists and include your name, address and signature.
Mail to:
ADVO, Inc. Consumer Assistance
PO Box 249
Windsor, CT 06095
(They also can be contacted via telephone at 888-241-6760 or online at
www.advo.com/consumersupport.html.)
Mail Preference Service
Direct Marketing Association
PO Box 643
Carmel, NY 10512
(The mail-in service is free, or you can register online at www.dmaconsumers.org for a $5 fee.)
Step #2
(Removes your name from phone solicitation lists.)
Register with the Federal Trade Commission’s National Do Not
Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov or by phone at 1-888-382-1222.
Step #3
(Removes your name from the credit bureaus lists used to solicit credit and insurance offers.)
Call 1-888-567-8688 and request your name be removed from credit bureau mailing lists.
