Keeping useable items out of the waste stream will extend the life of our landfills. Finding a resource where you can get free stuff will extend your budget. Something that accomplishes both is the Freecycle Network,™ a grassroots movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns.

Membership is free and, according to their website, there are already 1,066 members registered in McMinnville alone (more than 18,000 in Portland and more than 1.5 million globally!). Local groups are run by local volunteer moderators.

The Freecycle Network was started in May 2003 to promote waste reduction in Tucson’s downtown and help save desert landscape from being taken over by landfills. The Network provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to “recycle” unwanted items. One person’s trash can truly be another’s treasure!

You can acquire something you need or share something you no longer need. Everything posted must be free, legal and appropriate for all ages.
