When you, your friends and family take simple steps to care for planet Earth, together you’re making a big leap toward creating a healthy environment for all.
Start a toy exchange.
One easy way to create less waste is to start with less…don’t buy so much. One fun way to still have new toys is to create a toy exchange with your friends. If you switch one toy each week you’ll always feel like you have a new toy…without having to buy one.
Visit the library.
Instead of buying new books, check them out from your local library whenever you can.
Appoint yourself the team recycler.
Do you play on a sports team? If you do, you’ll probably notice that some people throw away their water bottles after practice or a game. You can let your team know that you’ll recycle their empty water bottles.
Volunteer for paper patrol.
Do you notice newspapers being thrown away? Offer to collect them in paper bags to be recycled. At school, ask your teacher where you can recycle your papers so your class doesn’t create paper waste.
Create Earth-friendly wrap.
Don’t wrap presents in new wrapping paper. There are many creative ways to wrap that are recyclable or reusable. Cut brown paper grocery bags and decorate the blank side. Use the Sunday newspaper cartoons. Use a recyclable gift bag. Put the gift in an empty and cleaned coffee can and cover the sides. Use leftover wallpaper or shelf paper. Remember to tell the receiver that their giftwrap is earth-friendly and can be recycled or reused.
