Do you have a pen and paper? Then you already have what is needed to help keep planet Earth cleaner. How? You can write letters to companies to tell them that you care about the Earth and encourage them to help care for it, too.

When packaging their toys, games, CDs or even food, some companies forget to consider the environment. The packages they choose–like big plastic cartons–create too much waste. Here are some examples of packages that aren’t earth-friendly:
• the package is not recyclable.
• the package is not made from recyclable materials.
• too much packaging is used.

How can you help? If you purchase a product and notice that the packaging creates too much waste, write the company and let them know. You can use our sample letter below to help you get started.


Sample Letter

Dear Company President:

Recently I bought one of your new toys. I like the toy and it is fun to play with, but I noticed that the toy was packaged in a lot of extra plastic. I was disappointed when I did not see a recycle symbol on the package.

When we recycle, we help keep the planet clean for us and all the creatures who live on the Earth. Please consider packaging your toys in materials that can be recycled and are made from recycled goods.

We all need to work together to keep our planet clean. I want to buy toys from companies that do their part.
