Rea Andrew said she began recycling "before it was popular." For the last 15 years she has carried that passion with her to work each day at the Newberg Public Library where she serves as the circulation manager. "Today, there are more opportunities for recycling than ever before," said Andrew, who has adopted such resource-saving practices as
copying on both sides of paper, not printing hard copies of emails, and reusing boxes and packing materials. The Newberg Public Library is part of a growing business community that has adopted a variety of recycling practices in the workplace and has joined Yamhill County’s BROWN program– Businesses Reducing Our Waste Now. BROWN recognizes and rewards businesses that have adopted practices that promote the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
In addition to expanding the library's earth-friendly practices, Andrew continues to add new programs to help others recycle. Plans are underway to give patrons a place to recycle printer cartridges and cell phones conveniently in the library's front lobby. "It only takes two weeks to form a lifelong habit," she added as a reminder.
