Waste reduction makes good business sense because it can save your organization money through reduced purchasing and waste disposal costs. There are two programs businesses can take advantage of to get free technical assistance to help develop, implement and measure waste reduction activities.
WISE UP!
The first program, WasteWise, is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency. WasteWise is a free, voluntary program through which organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste and select industrial wastes, benefiting their bottom line and the environment. WasteWise is a flexible program that allows partners to design their own waste reduction programs tailored to their needs. Large and small businesses from any industry sector are welcome to participate. The amount of time and money you invest is up to you! You are free to set goals that are the most feasible and cost-effective for your organization. In the long run, waste reduction can save your organization money. For more information, call the WasteWise Helpline at (800) EPA-WISE or register online at
http://www.epa.gov/wastewise.
Go BROWN to Go Green!
The second program is local, Yamhill County’s BROWN program–Businesses Reducing Our Waste Now. BROWN helps businesses adopt practices that promote the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
For more information on how your business can become a YC BROWN member, contact your local coordinators. In the Newberg/Dundee areas call, 503.538.1388; in the remainder of Yamhill County call, 503.474.4892; or email info@ycsw.org for more information.
